Dear Colleagues,


The innovation of the GMAA Breakfast has been a success at the Aurora Bar, so much so that we will be repeating it on Thursday 15 October (see invitation below).


The topic will be "Trials and Tribulations of Investing in the Life Sciences Sector – A Capital Perspective".


Dr David Fisher
will be our guest of honour.  His biography is attached.  David will give an insider’s account on what is happening in the world of Venture Capital and Private Equity, particularly in the context of life sciences.  This will extend to a discussion on:

  • The implications of the Global Financial Crisis

  • What is happening to investor attitudes

  • Risk

  • What are the growth sectors?

  • Where the jobs will be in the future.

This will be a tremendous occasion.

About David Fisher 



Dr David Fisher FFin has over 30 years experience (including substantial operating experience) in the biotechnology and healthcare industry in Australia and overseas. In 1999, David established Brandon Capital Management, a venture capital firm focusing on the life sciences sector. Its successor, Brandon Capital Partners, established in 2006, manages $80 million in two venture capital funds focussed entirely on the life sciences sector.


Prior to establishing Brandon Capital, David was for 10 years foundation CEO of Peptech Limited, which later became 


Arana and has now been acquired by US-based Cephalon.


Prior to establishing Peptech, David spent ten years with Pharmacia AB (now part of Pfizer, Inc) including five years at their head office in Sweden in several senior roles, including as a director of their corporate office responsible for identifying new business opportunities and strategic investments for the company.


He is a director of Nanosonics Ltd, a past president of the Australian Biotechnology Association and past chairman of the CSIRO’s Division of Animal Production Industry Advisory Committee.
